When you receive your Credit, Charge or ATM Card from HSBC
Ensure that you sign on the signature panel on the back of your Card as soon as you receive it.
Always keep a copy of the HSBC Call Centre number and your card number in a convenient place, separate from your card.
Protect your cards as if they were cash. Do not leave them unattended anywhere.
Change your Personal Identification Number (PIN) to one, which is personal to you and can be easily recalled. However, avoid such obvious numbers as your date of birth or telephone number. Never write down your PIN. Destroy the PIN mailer received from the bank once you have changed your PIN using your card at an HSBC ATM within your card issuing country.
Never disclose your PIN to anyone. No one from HSBC, any other financial institution, the police, or a merchant should ask for your PIN, even as a verification code.
If your card is borrowed by a family member/friend, with or without your knowledge, you will be held responsible for all transactions made using the card. Know who has access to your cards.
When you use your HSBC Card for a transaction
Ensure that you get your card back after completing every transaction.

Always check your monthly statements. Report any discrepancies to HSBC within 30 days from the statement date.
When you use your HSBC Card at any ATM
Look around and observe your surroundings. If the machine is poorly lit or is in a hidden area, use another ATM.
If you find any signs of the ATM being physically tampered with or attached with external fittings or loose wirings, report this to the bank and use another ATM.
Make sure that anyone waiting in the queue is not able to see you entering your PIN.
Ensure that your transaction is completed and you have the card in your possession before you leave the ATM. Do not leave your ATM receipt on the machine.
If your card is retained at the ATM, contact HSBC immediately .
Be suspicious of anyone near the ATM offering help, even if dressed as a bank employee or security staff.
Regularly change your PIN at any HSBC ATM in your card issuing country.
When you use your Credit/Charge Card from HSBC for Mail/Phone or Internet transactions
Mail/Telephone solicitations bring many tempting offers, but not all are legitimate. Be careful about deals, which sound too good to be true. Do not reveal your Card number unless you want your account to be charged.
Read in detail and understand the Terms & Conditions before completing any Internet transaction.
Record the name, address and phone number of the firm you are dealing with.
Do not give your Card number over the phone unless you have initiated the call and/or after satisfying yourself of the credentials of the merchant, to the extent possible.
Do not carelessly discard or leave in the open, transaction receipts, statements or any other documents that contain your card/account details.
Beware that insecure telephone lines and Internet connections can be tapped and card numbers intercepted.
If your Credit, Charge or ATM Card from HSBC is Lost or Stolen
Report lost/stolen cards immediately to HSBC. You will not be held liable for any transactions on the card after the card is reported lost/stolen.
Confirm the last transaction made on the card when you report the loss of your card.
Report the loss of your Card to the local law enforcing authorities immediately and obtain a victim of crime report number.
