Thanks to Verified by VISA® and MasterCard® SecureCodeTM, using your HSBC Debit and Credit Cards online is now even more secure.

How Verified by VISA® / MasterCard® SecureCodeTM works:

  • Shop online at participating retailers who show the Verified by VISA® and/or MasterCard® SecureCodeTM logo
  • You will see a message asking you to input a PIN. You can choose Static PIN or One Time PIN (OTP) to confirm the transaction. (Static PIN and OTP details below)*
  • The transaction will be confirmed on successful entry of the PIN.
 

*Static PIN is a Pin that you generate during the first online transaction and can be used for all other transactions in the future. Your new Static PIN has to be a minimum of 8 characters and must contain one special character, one alphabet letter in upper case and one number. OTP is a One Time PIN which will be sent to your registered local mobile phone number via SMS.

HSBC Online Security in association with Verified by VISA® and MasterCard® SecureCodeTM will only work effectively if we have an up-to-date mobile phone number for your primary and supplementary cards. Please take a minute to make sure all your details are correct.

Updating your contact details is as easy:

1. Log in to your Personal Online Banking account and update your contact details; or
2. Call us on our Telephone Banking numbers and follow the instructions to update your contact details; or
3. Visit your nearest branch or customer service unit and update your contact details by filling in a form.

1. What is Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode is provided to you by Visa / MasterCard and HSBC. It provides added security when you shop online against unauthorised use of your enrolled card.

2. How does Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode work?

Every time you make an online purchase at a participating retailer, a screen will show where you will be able to request a One Time PIN or Static PIN. We explain the difference between a One Time PIN and a Static PIN below. This PIN will need to be input on the space provided for the PIN. When you correctly enter your PIN, HSBC confirms that you are the authorized Cardholder.

3. How does Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode protect me?

When you correctly enter your PIN during an online purchase at a participating retailer, you confirm that you are the authorized Cardholder. If the correct PIN is not entered, the purchase will not go through. So even if someone knew your card number, they would not be able to use your account at that retailer.

4. Is Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode easy to use?

Yes. When you make an online purchase and enter your card payment information, a screen from HSBC will automatically appear and prompt you to enter the PIN. The PIN will need to be input on the space provided for the PIN. When you correctly enter your PIN, HSBC confirms that you are the authorised Cardholder and your purchase is completed.

5. Will I need to get a new Card to use Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

No, there is no need to get a new Card. Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode works with your existing HSBC Cards.

6. What are the system requirements for Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode works with most browsers. You should be sure that Java Script is enabled; if it isn’t, Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode may not work properly.

7. Can I use Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode from any computer?

Yes. There's no special software to install, so you can shop from any computer and still receive the added protection provided by Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode. This would also work from Tablets / Smartphones as well.

8. What happens when my card expires?

All the cards issued by HSBC are automatically registered for Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode. If your card has expired, the Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode will not work. Once you receive the renewed card, the Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode will work. The renewed cards are sent a couple of months prior to expiry of your card.

9. What happens if I cancel my existing card then get a new one with a different account number from HSBC?

All cards issued by HSBC are registered for Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode. Once you start using the new HSBC Card issued to you, Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode would work for the card.

10. Do I need to register for Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

All cards issued by HSBC are pre-registered for Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode. Once you start using the new HSBC Card issued to you, Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode would work for the card.

11. What is the difference between a One Time PIN and a Static PIN?

A One Time PIN is a unique PIN to validate every transaction that you receive through SMS on your registered local mobile number, while a static PIN is one that you will create once to validate all of your card transactions, where same PIN will be used in each transaction.

12. Is my PIN case sensitive?

The One Time PIN is only numeric and will be sent to your registered local mobile number with HSBC. However your static PIN will be case sensitive and has to meet a minimum set of requirements.

Shopping with Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode

13. How do I use my Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode PIN?

There is no need to login or sign in. Every time you make an online purchase at a participating retailer, a screen will show where you will be able to request for a One Time PIN or proceed using your existing static PIN. Should you choose the One Time PIN option, the 6 digits PIN will be sent to your local mobile number registered with us. This PIN will need to be input on the screen on the space provided for the PIN. Alternatively you can use the static PIN as directed by the screen. When you correctly enter your PIN, HSBC confirms that you are the authorised Cardholder and your purchase is completed.

14. How will Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode impact my purchase?

Aside from the added protection that Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode provides, the only impact to your purchase will be that you will need to type in your Static or One Time PIN, which you will be sent to your local mobile registered with HSBC on your request, when the request box pops up and then wait a few seconds while HSBC confirms the transaction.

15. Do I have to register or login before shopping?

No. Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode works automatically at participating retailers. There is no special login required. Simply shop online as you normally do, enter the enrolled card payment information, and when you are at the final step of your purchase on a participating retailer's site, the PIN request screen will appear automatically.

16. What should I do if I purchase online but no Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode request screen appears?

You should do the following:
I. Make sure you are entering the payment information for your enrolled card and have submitted a final checkout request.
II. Be sure your Internet settings are set to enable Java Script.
III. If you have checked 1 and 2 above and continue to experience difficulty, please contact us at the number on the reverse of your Card or on the HSBC website.

17. Can I make a purchase at retailers that accept Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode but do not participate in the Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode service?

Yes, but you will not be asked for your Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode PIN at these retailers. To complete your purchase, simply follow the traditional checkout process.

18. How will the online retailer know that my card is protected by Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

When you use a Card you have enrolled in the Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode service at participating online retailers, your Card number is automatically recognized via a directory.

19. How do I know whether a retailer participates in Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode or not?

Participating retailers will display the Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode logo on their site. You can also click on the Visa / MasterCard link on the home page of the retailer to view a list of participating retailers.

20. What happens if I did not receive my One Time PIN?

The One Time PIN is sent to the registered local mobile number with HSBC.

If the local mobile number registered with us is incorrect, please update your local mobile number by calling the number on the reverse of your Card or on the HSBC website. You can alternately visit any of our branches or Customer Service Units to update the local mobile number. The service will not be available immediately. You will be able to complete your online transactions only after One working day of updation of your mobile number with HSBC.

If you still face problems in receipt of the One Time PIN, please contact us at the number on the reverse of your Card or on the HSBC website and register a complaint.

21. What happens if I input the wrong One Time PIN by mistake?

The transaction will not go through if you input the wrong PIN. Please try to input the right PIN which you have received on the registered local mobile number with HSBC. If you input the right PIN, the transaction will go through.

22. What happens if I input the wrong One Time PIN thrice?

If you input the wrong PIN thrice, the transaction will not go through and transaction screen will close and you will be guided back to the merchant web page. You will have to start the transaction process again.

23. What happens if I input the wrong Static PIN thrice?

If you input the wrong Static PIN thrice, the transaction will not go through and the transaction screen will close and you be guided back to the merchant’s web page. Your Card would also will be blocked on internet for further usage.

24. How do I unblock my card which was blocked due to the entry of incorrect static PIN?

To unblock your card, you would be required to contact the call center to reactivate the card after which you would need to reset your PIN using the "forget your PIN" option and follow the instructions on the screen.

25. If my card is blocked can I use the One Time PIN to validate the transactions?

No, you would require unblocking the card, prior to further usages on 3D Secured sites

26. What happens if I input the wrong card number?

The transaction will be declined at the outset since the card number will not be recognized as issued by HSBC.

27. What happens if I am travelling overseas and not using the local mobile number registered with HSBC?

The One Time PIN is sent to the registered local mobile number with HSBC. In case you are not carrying the local mobile number registered with HSBC, our suggestion is to register the local number which you are carrying with you with HSBC by calling our all center or update on the HSBC Website. Once you are back and start using the local mobile number, you can register that with HSBC again.

Security and Privacy

28. How does Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode protect me?

Every time you make an online purchase at a participating retailer, a screen will show where you will be able to request for a One Time PIN or a static PIN. This PIN will be sent to your local mobile number registered with us. This PIN will need to be input on the screen on the space provided for the PIN. When you correctly enter your PIN, HSBC confirms that you are the authorised Cardholder and your purchase is completed.at a participating retailer, a screen will appear automatically asking for your PIN, like the bank asks for your PIN at the ATM. When you correctly enter your PIN, you confirm that you are the authorised Cardholder and your purchase is completed. If the correct PIN is not supplied, HSBC cannot confirm your identity and so the purchase will not go through.

29. How will the online retailer know that my card is protected by Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

When you use a card which is enrolled in Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode at participating online retailers, the retailer does not know that your account is protected until you finish the purchase and confirm your identity to your issuer. At that point, your issuer guarantees your purchase to the retailer, but never shares your PIN.

30. Where can I view Terms and Conditions?

You should visit HSBC’s website for viewing the HSBC Card Terms and Conditions. You can click on the link on the HSBC Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode transaction screens.

31. Does the service use cookies?

Yes. The Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode service does use cookies. Both session cookies and permanent cookies are used.

What is Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode is a service which provides you with additional security when you shop online using your HSBC credit card on merchant websites which subscribe to the services of Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode.

Who is Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode provided by?

HSBC Bank Egypt provides this service to you through Visa, but we may use third party service providers to operate the service or part of it on our behalf. References to "HSBC", "we" or "us" in these Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode Terms and Conditions mean HSBC Bank Egypt.

What do I need in order to use Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

In order to use Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode, you must have the ability to access the internet and must pay any service fees associated with such access. In addition, you must have the equipment necessary to make such a connection to the internet, including a computer and modem or other relevant device.

You will need to register a valid local mobile phone number with us to use Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode. Please ensure the latest local mobile phone number we have in our files records is your most up-to-date number before using Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode.

How do I use Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

To prevent unauthorized use of your credit card online, Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode is introducing a new security step when you make an online payment with certain merchant websites.

Every time you try to make an online payment with a registered merchant, you will be asked for your PIN.

The first time you use Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode you will be directed to HSBC’s Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode webpage, where you will be directed to create a static PIN.

You will receive an SMS on your local mobile number registered with HSBC which will tell you how to create a static PIN number. To create the static PIN an SMS will be sent to the local mobile number registered with HSBC.

You now will have a choice to choose between a static PIN or a one time PIN to authenticate your credit card transactions.

Should you choose the one time PIN, you will be asked each time you make an online payment, to click on a button to request a PIN. A PIN will then be sent by SMS to your mobile. Please ensure before clicking on the request button that we have your up-to-date local mobile number.

The PIN we send you will be unique for each transaction and valid for 7 minutes.

Alternatively you can choose the static PIN that you have created to authenticate your transaction.

If your PIN is incorrect the retailer may reject your transaction.

Do any other terms and conditions apply?

Our product terms and conditions continue to apply in addition to these Terms and Conditions; so for example, there are separate terms and conditions which apply to your credit cards.

Can I de-activate my Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode registration?

No, you cannot de-activate your Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode registration.

Can you discontinue or suspend Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

Yes, we may need to discontinue or suspend Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode and we may do this immediately for any reason. We will not be liable to you if our discontinuation causes you any loss.

Although we may discontinue the service for any reason, we will discontinue or suspend the service for you, if any of the data you provide us is incorrect, not current or incomplete, or we have reasonable ground to suspect it might be. We may also need to discontinue the service for a regulatory or legal reason. We may not be able to provide you with the reason for discontinuation or suspension.

Will my data be shared with third parties?

Registering for Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode involves providing personal information and we will use this data in accordance with the data sharing provisions in our general terms and conditions, whether for Corporate or Personal banking customers. This may mean your data is shared with third parties and outside the country in which you bank with us. We may also verify your identity or suitability for the service by using data available from third parties such as credit reference agencies.

What are my responsibilities when using Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

You will comply with all applicable laws, statutes, ordinances, and regulations in your use of Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode or Merchant’s website and your purchase and use of goods and services. This includes complying with any or all laws of countries other than Arab Republic of Egypt which apply to your use of Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode.

You also acknowledge and agree that you have the following responsibilities:

a. to verify that the information entered on all retailer order forms is accurate;
b. to verify that the information displayed in the Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode transaction screen is correct for each purchase;
c. to make full and timely payments for any purchases made involving Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode or this website;
d. to be fully responsible for all transactions or other activities that occur or are undertaken under your user name and Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode PIN;
e. to safeguard the confidentiality of your user name and Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode PIN for Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode and/or this website;
f. to immediately report to HSBC if your PIN for Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode or this website are stolen or compromised;

e. "Frame" or "mirror" any part of the Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode website or service without the prior written authorization of us;
f. use any robot, spider, site search/retrieval application, or other manual or automatic device or process to retrieve, index, "data mine", or in any way reproduce or circumvent the navigational structure or presentation of the Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode website or service or its contents;
g. otherwise interfere with, or disrupt, Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode or servers or networks connected to Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode, or violate these Terms and Conditions or any requirements, procedures, policies or regulations of Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode or of any networks connected to Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode;
h. intentionally or unintentionally violate any applicable local, state, national or international statute, regulation, regulatory guideline or judicial or administrative interpretation, or any rule or requirement established by HSBC or our service providers in connection with your use of Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode;
i. to refrain from any resale of Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode or this website or any part thereof, from making a derivative of Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode or this website or any part thereof, from collecting or using any information provided by other users without their express written consent, or from otherwise engaging in any form of data mining or data extraction with respect to any data accessible through Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode or this website;
j. to not use Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode or this website in a manner that would:

  • infringe any third party copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret, or other proprietary rights or rights of publicity or privacy;
  • be fraudulent or involve the sale of counterfeit or stolen items;
  • violate any law, statute, ordinance, or regulation (including without limitation those governing export control, consumer protection, unfair competition, anti-discrimination, or false advertising);
  • be false, misleading, or inaccurate;
  • create liability for HSBC or our service providers or cause HSBC or our service providers to lose (in whole or in part) the services of our third party providers;

m. disclose your static PIN or your one time PIN to anyone or write your PIN down. We would recommend making your PIN memorable to you but not choosing sequences of letters or numbers that may be easy to guess.

You acknowledge that various goods or services offered from retailers may be prohibited in your geographic area.

When will we be liable to you?

We will not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension or discontinuance of Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode.

We will pay your direct out-of-pocket expenses you incurred when using Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode and in relation to:

a. negligence or intentional misconduct by us, our employees or agents;
b. an attack by others on the systems we use to provide Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode; but
c. under no circumstances will we be liable for any consequential, incidental, special or indirect losses or other damages, such as any damage to your computer or telephone service resulting from your use of Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode.

We shall not accept any responsibility for, and will not be liable for, any damages to, or any viruses which may affect, your computer equipment or other property on account of your access to, use of, or downloading from, this website.

What happens if I get in a dispute with the retailer to whom I am making the payment?

Your correspondence or business dealings with, or participation in promotions of, online retail or other retailers on or through Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode including payment and delivery of related goods or services, and any other terms, conditions, warranties or representations associated with such dealings, are solely between you and such retailer. Any dispute with the retailer is solely between you and the retailer and we shall not be responsible or liable for any loss or damage of any sort incurred as a result of any such dealings.

What happens if a third party uses Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode fraudulently and makes a transaction on my credit card?

What happens if there is a discrepancy in a transaction on my credit card billed or shown on my account statement?

We will try to give you notice of any changes we make to these Terms and Conditions as soon as practical. If we make a change which is detrimental to you, we will give you at least 30 days’ notice. 1. What is Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode is provided to you by Visa / MasterCard and HSBC. It provides added security when you shop online against unauthorised use of your enrolled card.

2. How does Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode work?

Every time you make an online purchase at a participating retailer, a screen will show where you will be able to request a One Time PIN or Static PIN. We explain the difference between a One Time PIN and a Static PIN below. This PIN will need to be input on the space provided for the PIN. When you correctly enter your PIN, HSBC confirms that you are the authorized Cardholder.

3. How does Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode protect me?

When you correctly enter your PIN during an online purchase at a participating retailer, you confirm that you are the authorized Cardholder. If the correct PIN is not entered, the purchase will not go through. So even if someone knew your card number, they would not be able to use your account at that retailer.

4. Is Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode easy to use?

Yes. When you make an online purchase and enter your card payment information, a screen from HSBC will automatically appear and prompt you to enter the PIN. The PIN will need to be input on the space provided for the PIN. When you correctly enter your PIN, HSBC confirms that you are the authorised Cardholder and your purchase is completed.

5. Will I need to get a new Card to use Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

No, there is no need to get a new Card. Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode works with your existing HSBC Cards.

6. What are the system requirements for Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode works with most browsers. You should be sure that Java Script is enabled; if it isn’t, Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode may not work properly.

7. Can I use Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode from any computer?

Yes. There's no special software to install, so you can shop from any computer and still receive the added protection provided by Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode. This would also work from Tablets / Smartphones as well.

8. What happens when my card expires?

All the cards issued by HSBC are automatically registered for Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode. If your card has expired, the Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode will not work. Once you receive the renewed card, the Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode will work. The renewed cards are sent a couple of months prior to expiry of your card.

9. What happens if I cancel my existing card then get a new one with a different account number from HSBC?

All cards issued by HSBC are registered for Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode. Once you start using the new HSBC Card issued to you, Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode would work for the card.

10. Do I need to register for Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

All cards issued by HSBC are pre-registered for Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode. Once you start using the new HSBC Card issued to you, Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode would work for the card.

11. What is the difference between a One Time PIN and a Static PIN?

A One Time PIN is a unique PIN to validate every transaction that you receive through SMS on your registered local mobile number, while a static PIN is one that you will create once to validate all of your card transactions, where same PIN will be used in each transaction.

12. Is my PIN case sensitive?

The One Time PIN is only numeric and will be sent to your registered local mobile number with HSBC. However your static PIN will be case sensitive and has to meet a minimum set of requirements.

Shopping with Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode

13. How do I use my Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode PIN?

There is no need to login or sign in. Every time you make an online purchase at a participating retailer, a screen will show where you will be able to request for a One Time PIN or proceed using your existing static PIN. Should you choose the One Time PIN option, the 6 digits PIN will be sent to your local mobile number registered with us. This PIN will need to be input on the screen on the space provided for the PIN. Alternatively you can use the static PIN as directed by the screen. When you correctly enter your PIN, HSBC confirms that you are the authorised Cardholder and your purchase is completed.

14. How will Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode impact my purchase?

Aside from the added protection that Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode provides, the only impact to your purchase will be that you will need to type in your Static or One Time PIN, which you will be sent to your local mobile registered with HSBC on your request, when the request box pops up and then wait a few seconds while HSBC confirms the transaction.

15. Do I have to register or login before shopping?

No. Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode works automatically at participating retailers. There is no special login required. Simply shop online as you normally do, enter the enrolled card payment information, and when you are at the final step of your purchase on a participating retailer's site, the PIN request screen will appear automatically.

16. What should I do if I purchase online but no Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode request screen appears?

You should do the following:
I. Make sure you are entering the payment information for your enrolled card and have submitted a final checkout request.
II. Be sure your Internet settings are set to enable Java Script.
III. If you have checked 1 and 2 above and continue to experience difficulty, please contact us at the number on the reverse of your Card or on the HSBC website.

17. Can I make a purchase at retailers that accept Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode but do not participate in the Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode service?

Yes, but you will not be asked for your Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode PIN at these retailers. To complete your purchase, simply follow the traditional checkout process.

18. How will the online retailer know that my card is protected by Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

When you use a Card you have enrolled in the Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode service at participating online retailers, your Card number is automatically recognized via a directory.

19. How do I know whether a retailer participates in Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode or not?

Participating retailers will display the Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode logo on their site. You can also click on the Visa / MasterCard link on the home page of the retailer to view a list of participating retailers.

20. What happens if I did not receive my One Time PIN?

The One Time PIN is sent to the registered local mobile number with HSBC.

If the local mobile number registered with us is incorrect, please update your local mobile number by calling the number on the reverse of your Card or on the HSBC website. You can alternately visit any of our branches or Customer Service Units to update the local mobile number. The service will not be available immediately. You will be able to complete your online transactions only after One working day of updation of your mobile number with HSBC.

If you still face problems in receipt of the One Time PIN, please contact us at the number on the reverse of your Card or on the HSBC website and register a complaint.

21. What happens if I input the wrong One Time PIN by mistake?

The transaction will not go through if you input the wrong PIN. Please try to input the right PIN which you have received on the registered local mobile number with HSBC. If you input the right PIN, the transaction will go through.

22. What happens if I input the wrong One Time PIN thrice?

If you input the wrong PIN thrice, the transaction will not go through and transaction screen will close and you will be guided back to the merchant web page. You will have to start the transaction process again.

23. What happens if I input the wrong Static PIN thrice?

If you input the wrong Static PIN thrice, the transaction will not go through and the transaction screen will close and you be guided back to the merchant’s web page. Your Card would also will be blocked on internet for further usage.

24. How do I unblock my card which was blocked due to the entry of incorrect static PIN?

To unblock your card, you would be required to contact the call center to reactivate the card after which you would need to reset your PIN using the "forget your PIN" option and follow the instructions on the screen.

25. If my card is blocked can I use the One Time PIN to validate the transactions?

No, you would require unblocking the card, prior to further usages on 3D Secured sites

26. What happens if I input the wrong card number?

The transaction will be declined at the outset since the card number will not be recognized as issued by HSBC.

27. What happens if I am travelling overseas and not using the local mobile number registered with HSBC?

The One Time PIN is sent to the registered local mobile number with HSBC. In case you are not carrying the local mobile number registered with HSBC, our suggestion is to register the local number which you are carrying with you with HSBC by calling our all center or update on the HSBC Website. Once you are back and start using the local mobile number, you can register that with HSBC again.

28. How does Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode protect me?

When you correctly enter your PIN, HSBC confirms that you are the authorised Cardholder and your purchase is completed.at a participating retailer, a screen will appear automatically asking for your PIN, like the bank asks for your PIN at the ATM. When you correctly enter your PIN, you confirm that you are the authorised Cardholder and your purchase is completed. If the correct PIN is not supplied, HSBC cannot confirm your identity and so the purchase will not go through.

29. How will the online retailer know that my card is protected by Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

When you use a card which is enrolled in Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode at participating online retailers, the retailer does not know that your account is protected until you finish the purchase and confirm your identity to your issuer. At that point, your issuer guarantees your purchase to the retailer, but never shares your PIN.

30. Where can I view Terms and Conditions?

What is Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode is a service which provides you with additional security when you shop online using your HSBC credit card on merchant websites which subscribe to the services of Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode.

Who is Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode provided by?

HSBC Bank Egypt provides this service to you through Visa, but we may use third party service providers to operate the service or part of it on our behalf. References to "HSBC", "we" or "us" in these Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode Terms and Conditions mean HSBC Bank Egypt.

What do I need in order to use Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

In order to use Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode, you must have the ability to access the internet and must pay any service fees associated with such access. In addition, you must have the equipment necessary to make such a connection to the internet, including a computer and modem or other relevant device.

You will need to register a valid local mobile phone number with us to use Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode. Please ensure the latest local mobile phone number we have in our files records is your most up-to-date number before using Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode.

How do I use Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

To prevent unauthorized use of your credit card online, Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode is introducing a new security step when you make an online payment with certain merchant websites.

Every time you try to make an online payment with a registered merchant, you will be asked for your PIN.

The first time you use Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode you will be directed to HSBC’s Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode webpage, where you will be directed to create a static PIN.

You will receive an SMS on your local mobile number registered with HSBC which will tell you how to create a static PIN number. To create the static PIN an SMS will be sent to the local mobile number registered with HSBC.

You now will have a choice to choose between a static PIN or a one time PIN to authenticate your credit card transactions.

Should you choose the one time PIN, you will be asked each time you make an online payment, to click on a button to request a PIN. A PIN will then be sent by SMS to your mobile. Please ensure before clicking on the request button that we have your up-to-date local mobile number.

The PIN we send you will be unique for each transaction and valid for 7 minutes.

Alternatively you can choose the static PIN that you have created to authenticate your transaction.

If your PIN is incorrect the retailer may reject your transaction.

Do any other terms and conditions apply?

Our product terms and conditions continue to apply in addition to these Terms and Conditions; so for example, there are separate terms and conditions which apply to your credit cards.

Can I de-activate my Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode registration?

No, you cannot de-activate your Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode registration.

Can you discontinue or suspend Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

Yes, we may need to discontinue or suspend Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode and we may do this immediately for any reason. We will not be liable to you if our discontinuation causes you any loss.

Although we may discontinue the service for any reason, we will discontinue or suspend the service for you, if any of the data you provide us is incorrect, not current or incomplete, or we have reasonable ground to suspect it might be. We may also need to discontinue the service for a regulatory or legal reason. We may not be able to provide you with the reason for discontinuation or suspension.

Will my data be shared with third parties?

Registering for Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode involves providing personal information and we will use this data in accordance with the data sharing provisions in our general terms and conditions, whether for Corporate or Personal banking customers. This may mean your data is shared with third parties and outside the country in which you bank with us. We may also verify your identity or suitability for the service by using data available from third parties such as credit reference agencies.

What are my responsibilities when using Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode?

You will comply with all applicable laws, statutes, ordinances, and regulations in your use of Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode or Merchant’s website and your purchase and use of goods and services. This includes complying with any or all laws of countries other than Arab Republic of Egypt which apply to your use of Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode.

You also acknowledge and agree that you have the following responsibilities:

a. to verify that the information entered on all retailer order forms is accurate;
b. to verify that the information displayed in the Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode transaction screen is correct for each purchase;
c. to make full and timely payments for any purchases made involving Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode or this website;
d. to be fully responsible for all transactions or other activities that occur or are undertaken under your user name and Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode PIN;

We will pay your direct out-of-pocket expenses you incurred when using Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode and in relation to:

a. negligence or intentional misconduct by us, our employees or agents;
b. an attack by others on the systems we use to provide Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode; but
c. under no circumstances will we be liable for any consequential, incidental, special or indirect losses or other damages, such as any damage to your computer or telephone service resulting from your use of Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode.

We shall not accept any responsibility for, and will not be liable for, any damages to, or any viruses which may affect, your computer equipment or other property on account of your access to, use of, or downloading from, this website.

What happens if I get in a dispute with the retailer to whom I am making the payment?

Your correspondence or business dealings with, or participation in promotions of, online retail or other retailers on or through Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode including payment and delivery of related goods or services, and any other terms, conditions, warranties or representations associated with such dealings, are solely between you and such retailer. What happens if a third party uses Verified by Visa / MasterCard SecureCode fraudulently and makes a transaction on my credit card?
